Wilson accused the government of keeping citizens in the dark about a massive debt created when Ontario Hydro was carved up during a restructuring in 1999.
The $7.8-billion debt was supposed to be paid off this year but ratepayers will continue to get dinged until 2018, he said.
“London families are rightly concerned that this is looking like a permanent tax grab,” he said.
The Dalton McGuinty government first pushed back the repayment date from 2012 to 2014, and then until as late as 2018, with no explanation why, Wilson said.
Energy and its costs promise to be an election issue as Ontarians get ready to go to the polls in October.
